Jonathan Roux wins PKR Live!

Last weekend’s PKR Live Main Event hosted by London’s Aspers Stratford casino attracted a field of 204 entrants, with 27-year old Jonathan Roux collecting the $22,215 first prize. An Omaha specialist with an EPT side event title to his name, Roux defeated fellow Londoner Gabriel Tuna heads-up to become the eighth PKR Live champion since the series began in 2008.

Runner-up Gabriel Tuna was looking to end his year with a flourish after victory in a GUKPT side event in February and a GPS final table in September, but could not overturn Roux’s lead in the closing stages.

After presiding over the chip lead for much of the $500 buy-in contest’s final table, well-known PKR.com regular Dan Whittaker finished third, his third final table of the year. Nicholas van de Weyer, a familiar face on the London live poker scene, entered the final nine with the chip lead but eventually departed in fourth place.

Of the five Team PKR Pros who took part – Vladimir Geshkenbein, Simon Hemsworth, Scott Shelley, Sofia Lovgren & Patty Beaumier – it was Shelley who progressed furthest, exiting in 12th place after seeming odds-on to become the first Team Pro to reach a PKR Live final table.

Recent GPS Stoke champion (the same event in which Tuna finished fifth) and a finalist from PKR Live in March, Tony Hallam again finished in the money but could not improve on his previous eighth place.
