Sorel Mizzi wins Partypoker Premier League, season 7

High stakes ace Sorel Mizzi capped a strong week long performance to emerge as champion of the partypoker Premier League 7. The $125,000 buy-in WPT special event drew to a close in the early hours at the Playground Poker Club in Montreal and 27-year-old pro Mizzi, proudly wearing a Team Canada jersey, took the short trip home to Toronto with the prestigious title.

“It’s brilliant to be the partypoker Premier League champion – I really felt it was my day during the final table. I think the key turning points were the big pots with Colman. This allowed me to get a huge 9-1 heads-up lead against Jeff Gross. Jeff started coming back but I was confident I was going take it down,” said Mizzi. Sorel scooped the $400,000 first prize plus $66,000 from the group stages with Jeff taking home $200,000 plus $77,000 from the group stages.

In the group stages Mizzi won one heat, finished fourth twice and fifth once. Along with the other three top four points earners – Colman, Gross and Rast – he secured an automatic seat at the final table. Koon, Duhamel, Seiver, and Cates had to battle for the final two spots through the heads-up play-offs. Koon got the better of Cates, while Seiver emerged triumphant heads-up against local hero Jonathan Duhamel.

Mizzi was a dominant figure at the final table where key clashes with Dan Colman and Jeff Gross eventually gave the Canadian high stakes ace the title. First out on the six handed final table was Brian Rast, followed by a cooler for Jason Koon. Next to go was Scott Seiver with Dan Colman finishing third.
